Running Faster Combat as a DM

Nothing drains a table's energy like a combat that grinds. The good news: most slowdowns come from friction you can design away before the session even starts.

Prep your rolls, not just your monsters

Before the fight, build your recurring attacks as quick-roll macros — the goblin's scimitar, the dragon's breath save DC, the initiative for the whole ambush. When the moment comes, you tap instead of hunting through a stat block. DM Mode gives you a full set of custom slots that live separately from your players' dice.

Roll monsters in groups

Six goblins? Roll their attacks together and read the results down the line. Legend Roller's roll log keeps every result with its breakdown, so you can narrate hits and misses fast without losing track of who did what.

Keep the spotlight moving

Call the next player's name while the current one acts. A roller that's instant and one-handed means nobody waits on the tool — the pause is for drama, not for menus.

Let the dice be seen

When the whole table can see the fate that was rolled — the crit, the fumble, the clutch save — combat becomes a shared story instead of bookkeeping. That's the whole point.
